Not cogent

[edit]

This article is really bitty. One of us needs to take a long hard look at the content and shape it into something more readable. Even if the guy is a polymath, he deserves a more structured profile. Onanoff (talk) 00:19, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I’m starting the process. The recent tagging was not helpful. Viriditas (talk) 23:26, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits

[edit]

I recently went through the edit history and the article, looking at the maintenance tags and the many citation needed and third party source needed tags. What's weird, is that not a single tag was found to be valid, so I removed every last one of them. In the one instance that I did find a problem, that problem remains in the article and was never tagged. It concerns the quote by Doctorow sourced to Answers.com about his relationship with E.L. While I think there's a high likelihood this quote is real and that the subject even added it, I've been unable to confirm or verify it. I did, however, place a supporting ref in a new sentence just after it, giving it weight. We're not supposed to link or reference answers.com so I think this should be removed. Misleading phrasing

[edit]

Under the subsection, "Other work, activism, and fellowships", there is a one line mention of Doctorow's coverage of the Sony-BMG DRM issue that is very misleading...

"Doctorow was involved in a controversy concerning digital rights management with Sony-BMG, ..."

I suppose technically it's true that if you write about an public issue, that you are somewhat "involved" but without clarification that line seems to imply that Doctorow himself engaged in some controversial activities. This really begs for much better phrasing. New~enwiki (talk) 00:55, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
